The Broward Sheriff’s Office will begin distributing approximately 330 new TASER devices to qualified members of law enforcement and
detention during a special roll call Wednesday September 6, 2006 at the BSO Defensive Tactics Training Center.
This distribution will more than double the number of devices already in service across the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The TASER devices have
been assigned to deputies in road patrol as well as detention.
Each deputy receiving a TASER has completed an agency-mandated training program on the proper use of the TASER.
“The last thing any deputy ever wants to do is draw his or her weapon. Having a TASER gives our deputies an important option,” said Broward
Sheriff Ken Jenne. “Since they were first introduced at the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the TASER has proven to be a valuable non-lethal
alternative that helps protect the public as well as our deputies.”
According to TASER International, TASER devices are currently used by over 9,100 law enforcement, correctional and military agencies in 43
countries.
*The TASER device will be demonstrated at the roll call. Any members of media wishing to participate in the demonstration should contact BSO
Media Relations.
*Media should meet in the Office of Media Relations to be escorted to the BSO DTTC
